Battlefield 3 Close Quarters DLC coming in June

Armoured Kill and End Game expansion packs also announced

Battlefield 3 will receive its second batch of premium DLC in June, DICE has announced.

Speaking at an evening event at GDC 2012, DICE developers Karl Magnus Troedsson and Patrick Bach introduced the Close Quarters pack, and teased two additional chunks of DLC: Armoured Kill and End Game.

Close Quarters will have four maps, ten additional weapons and new achievements. DICE is looking to theme all of its DLC, and the focus for Close Quarters is squarely on infantry skirmishes - Bach said that the maps were similar to Operation Metro, which he stated was one of Battlefield 3's most popular maps.

Unlike Operation Metro, however, Close Quarters will focus on vertical map design and destructible environments. Only one of the four maps, Ziba Tower, is currently being shown, taking place in an office complex with multiple floors, neatly partitioned spaces and trendy looking light fixtures.

The four Close Quarters maps provide "some of the most intense moments [Battlefield has] ever had," said Troedsson.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter deploying October 23

Electronic Arts is going to war this October. Medal of Honor: Warfighter will deploy on October 23, according to a new trailer for the game.

Tier 1 operators are serving a second tour of duty this October.

A debut trailer for Medal of Honor: Warfighter (embedded below) posted to Electronic Arts' official YouTube channel reveals the game's release date. A European trailer for the game was also spotted bearing an October 23 ship date, pointing to Electronic Arts planning a global launch for the new shooter. Typically, software arrives in Europe on Fridays.

The October release date coincides with a report from last month, pointing to a fall release for the game. Contacted for comment regarding the game's launch date, EA pointed GameSpot to the trailer.

As for the trailer, it displays the game's Tier 1 operators, with a voice-over uttering superlatives about the soldiers. These phrases include, "Our brothers say they aren't even human," "They breathe water and change shape," and "They can see in the dark and are always watching."

Battlefield 3 DLC Rumor – All American Map Pack

Today, we have a very interesting rumor coming from YouTuber, TheAustrianToast, regarding DICE’s plans for future Battlefield 3 DLC.

In a dual commentary with DCRUColin, TheAustrianToast revealed, ”I have a source telling me that there will be an all American DLC.” He added that these maps would be based on locations like “New York City, Miami, New Jearsey, and I think it was San Francisco.”

Before Battlefield fans get a little too excited, since his sources were never revealed, we have to consider this a fairly wild but rather likely rumor. Rather likely, because if we take a look at the recent Back to Karkand maps, they are already based on various cities in the Middle East. This also seems to be the overall theme with Battlefield 3 – environments within city limits, as opposed to Battlefield: Bad Comany 2′s more open environments. It would make sense for DICE to stick with what the Frostbite 2 engine seems to do really well.

TheAustrianToast later stated in this commentary, ”I mean, the all American DLC pack is a great idea and should actually come out middle, or in the beginning of summer.

Lastly, a while back, DICE mentioned that they weren’t into making “map packs,” but rather “expansions.” This would most likely mean that we would also see a new set of weapons, vehicles, and assignments much like the recent Back to Karkand expansion. On top of Battlefield 2143 rumors, DICE also considered the idea of a snow-themed expansion, something many Battlefield 3 fans have been craving since Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

Make sure to follow MP1st on Twitter and Facebook for more Battlefield 3 news!

Let us know your thoughts in the comments. Does this rumor seem likely to you? Would you love to drive a tank down the streets of New York City in an all American themed DLC?

Battlefield 3 anti-cheat measures intensify

In our continued effort to minimize cheating in Battlefield 3, we recently banned another batch of several hundred confirmed cheaters based on your reports and our player behavior data.

At DICE, we will never tolerate cheaters. Life on the battlefield can be harsh, especially when you’re up against the fantastic flying duo. But it should never be a case of you losing because someone is outright cheating.

We have always taken cheating seriously. Starting today, we will further intensify our efforts to hunt down and rid Battlefield 3 of cheaters. Stats wiping and banning this disruptive minority is the only way they will understand that they are ruining the game for others. We do this for the millions of dedicated players out there who deserve a fair game, every game.

If you believe you have been the victim of outright cheating, the best way to report your concerns is to go to Battlelog, enter the profile page of the person you suspect and click the triangle in the top right corner of his name.

This will open up a window where you can describe to us at DICE what happened. Please enter as much detail as possible, describing what specifically makes you believe this player has used unfair methods, and preferably include a link to the Battle Report for the match in question.

These reports are then received by our analysts here at DICE who will do a deeper analysis of the situation and take appropriate action, including stats wiping and/or banning players who are confirmed as cheating.

Reducing the number of cheaters is an ongoing endeavor, and one that we will never stop. Thanks for your co-operation, and see you on the battlefield!

Battlefield 4 confirmed by EA president?

Executive reportedly name-drops next numbered entry in long-running large-scale military shooter franchise during college campus event.

Source: A Twitter post of an attendee at a college campus talk given by Electronic Arts president Frank Gibeau reports the executive confirmed Battlefield 4.

What we heard: Battlefield 3 is barely two weeks old, but Electronic Arts is already thinking about the sequel. The University of Southern California held a campus event last night that featured a talk from EA president Frank Gibeau. If the Twitter account is accurate, Gibeau addressed the future of the Battlefield franchise, saying, "There is going to be a Battlefield 4."

The notion of another Battlefield game on the way is hardly surprising. Battlefield 3 was EA's biggest launch ever, shipping 10 million copies worldwide for day one. The game was well received by critics and sold through more than 5 million copies in the first week.

While more Battlefield is a foregone conclusion, the bigger question is when EA would release it. Activision gave its own confirmation of the next Call of Duty game yesterday, but unlike EA, the Modern Warfare 3 publisher said that its next military shooter would arrive in 2012.

In August, DICE executive producer Patrick Bach said in an interview that annualizing the Battlefield franchise would "dilute the vision" and "eventually kill the franchise." Battlefield is not quite a yearly franchise for EA, which saw two years pass between the release of 2008's Bad Company and that of last year's Bad Company 2. Battlefield 3 marks the first numbered game in the series since the release of the PC-only Battlefield 2 in 2005.

The official story: EA had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment as of press time.

Bogus or not bogus: Not bogus that Battlefield 4 is coming eventually, but when and how it launches remain to be seen.
